This vintage Indonesian batik wall hanging, featuring a serene  depiction of Buddha, measures approximately 22 1/2" x 30". It was purchased in East Java during a spiritual quest by the original owner around 1990. As a fair trade item, it represents the rich cultural heritage and sacred arts of Indonesia.

Batik is an ancient textile art form that involves wax resist dyeing of fabric. This technique is most highly developed on the island of Java, where all the necessary materials—cotton, beeswax, and various plant-based dyes—are readily available. The intricate process and the cultural significance make this piece a valuable addition to any collection of art and collectibles, especially those focusing on fiber arts and Indonesian textile arts.

One of the unique features of this wall hanging is its versatility. You can choose to hang it on either side, as there are subtle variations that add to its charm and interest. This makes it a perfect piece for meditation spaces, home decor, or any setting that appreciates batik textiles and sacred art.
