Batik Buddha

This vintage Indonesian batik wall hanging, featuring a serene  depiction of Buddha, measures approximately 22 1/2" x 30". It was purchased in East Java during a spiritual quest by the original owner around 1990. As a fair trade item, it represents the rich cultural heritage and sacred arts of Indonesia.

Batik is an ancient textile art form that involves wax resist dyeing of fabric. This technique is most highly developed on the island of Java, where all the necessary materials—cotton, beeswax, and various plant-based dyes—are readily available.
