1960s vintage sheath day dress by designer Shannon Rodgers. Shannon Rodgers was the world-famous designer for Jerry Silverman. His Hollywood costuming career began "Cleopatra" in Hollywood (1934). First Ladies Lady Bird Johnson, Princess Margaret, Bess Myerson, Pat Nixon, and others wore his dresses.
This dress is made from cotton piqué with satin ribbon trim and features an allover floral pattern. It has a square neckline, a gently fitted bodice, and a four-gore A-line skirt with soft gathers at the front hips. The dress is designed to be worn by pulling it overhead (do not step into it). The bodice is flat-lined with cotton for added structure. The metal zipper at the front center may not be original, and the upper button placket is adorned with charming fabric-covered diminutive shank buttons. The original matching belt shows slight fraying at the belt hole, and a small portion of the belt’s backing has become detached (please see the images).
Label: Designed by Shannon Rodgers. The ILGWU union bug label indicates this was Made in the USA. The labels are found at the inner side seam of the skirting.
