1920s WW1 Hyperinflation Victory Dress

A rare and historically significant "Victory Dress," crafted from hyperinflated German currency dating back to 1923. This unique garment is an extraordinary symbol of protest, resilience, and defiance during one of the most chaotic periods in Germany’s history.

Key Features:

• Made from authentic, devalued German Reichmarks, featuring "Vampire Notes"—a striking design where a hidden face and open mouth appear when the notes are turned 90 degrees. This eerie image symbolizes the economic drain caused by the reparations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles.
• Likely worn during Germany’s 1923 Carnival (Fastnacht), these dresses were used to mock the absurdity of a collapsed economy.
• A rare piece of history, symbolizing the resilience and creativity of the women who crafted these dresses amidst the trauma of hyperinflation.
• Museum quality.
• We know of only one other dress that has survived, and it is in the Bundesbank’s Money Museum collection.

Condition:

• We have noticed one banknote is torn, and others are intentionally folded, as shown. Overall, the dress is in excellent vintage condition with some slight wear and fading to the fabric, consistent with age.
• The rag-like fraying at the sleeves and hem is intentional and not a flaw.
• The dress has no repairs or alterations and is offered in its original condition.
