This 1942 black satin hat is a distinctive piece from the wartime era, when fabric rationing resulted in smaller, more compact designs. Known as the "Gay Newsboy" (the term "gay" referred to happiness in the 1940s, not its modern meaning), this charming topper features a rounded velvet cord hat band.
The hat sits atop the head, with a 15" sweatband size, designed to rest lightly and be pinned into place for a secure fit. It shows some makeup residue on the inner sweatband and brim, please refer to the images for details. A timeless collectible with a rich history.
Sweatband size: 15"
Label: Exclusive Ranleigh Model, consumer protection label.
