Antique Lady's Maid Mobcap

This exceptionally rare late Victorian to Edwardian maid’s mob cap features a tea-dyed eyelet lace brim, a weighted black silk crown, and a Petersham ribbon sweatband. The inner mesh structure enhances both its shape and durability. Upon closer inspection, traces of both hand-stitching and machine-stitching are evident. There is a small tear in the interior horsehair mesh lining of the crown. This piece represents finer attire intended for an upstairs maid, as wealthy households often competed to dress their servants well, demonstrating their affluence by ensuring they were also outfitted in high-quality clothing.
