1915 WW1 era Elegant Christmas

1915. World War One era postcards show a drastic change in the postcards from the pre-war cards. We see a more conservative and somber presentation, as found here. Plain white backgrounds, little to no gilding, and a very limited color palette due to ink shortages. Postcards were no longer imported from Germany, so we started to see cards marked Made in the USA as an indicator of patriotism.

Church bells, sleigh bells, and handbells have long been symbols of Christmas, evoking memories of festive celebrations. Handheld bells were historically used in ceremonies and announcements, while large bells in church towers called communities to worship. Even today, these bells ring out at midnight on Christmas Eve, heralding the birth of Christ.

Enjoy this very pretty, understated antique Christmas postcard that features three embossed silver bells hanging from red Christmas ribbons. Framing the scene is vibrant green holly and bright red berries. "A Happy Xmas!" is calligraphed in the lower half of the image.
