Albert Chanot (1881-1963) was a French painter and sculptor known for his contributions to Impressionist and Modern art. Born in Paris, he studied under Henri Pinta and gained recognition early in his career. Chanot received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1909 and became a regular exhibitor there.
His works often included landscapes, nudes, portraits, and sculptures. One of his notable contributions is a mixed composition in the transept of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Croix de Ménilmontant church, which includes a statue of the Virgin at the foot of the Cross and a large painting illustrating the history of suffering and salvation. Chanot also participated in the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des Tuileries, showcasing his diverse artistic talents.
In 1980, the Centre d’art contemporain Chanot was inaugurated in Clamart Paris, France, thanks to a bequest from his wife, Lucie.
