1908 St Mary's Women's College Chapel Indiana
1908 vintage postcard. Chapel from Lower Orchard St Mary's Women's College. In 1843 four Sisters of the Holy Cross ventured from Le Mans, France, to the wilderness of northern Indiana. Shortly after, they opened a boarding school for young women in Bertrand, just north of the Michigan state line from South Bend. In 1908 the school officially became Saint Mary’s College. This is their Chapel/Church pictured in the year they became independent of Notre Dame.
