1910s Edwardian Kashmiri Turquoise Ladakh Stones Ferozi lavalier necklace with enameled bronze chain links. Expected wear on enameled links and fittings, as shown. Spring ring clasp. Choker length of 15 inches around the neck with a 2 1/2-inch drop pendant. So, it could also be considered princess length.
The art of making Kashmiri turquoise is a dying craft, with only 5 artisans left in the entire Kashmir Valley in India. Kashmiri turquoise is not a natural turquoise but takes its name from the stunning oceanic shade of blue that can be seen in this piece. The stones are found in the mountainous regions of Ladakh and are naturally a pale green color. Each stone is shaped by the artisan for each specific piece being made. After shaping, the Ladakh stones are hand-painted a vibrant turquoise blue color.
