Four men with their horse-drawn and buggy transports visit the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, a public art work in Delphi, Indiana, United States. The color bearer holds a staff with a furled flag in both hands, holding it to his proper left side.
Published by The Western News Company, 1866, Chicago, IL—John R. Walsh and Andrew McNally chose Chicago to form this publishing and distribution firm because of its strategic position as a transportation hub. Though the company was founded to rival the American News Company, the founders often worked together as a network in the distribution of printed material, eventually including postcards.
