1940s to early 1950s vintage Kentucky riding pants by Meyer’s Brothers Riding Apparel from Lexington, Kentucky. Known as the “Home of the Thoroughbred,” these pants are a unique piece of equestrian history.

These Kentucky Jodhpurs are full-length riding pants designed for saddle seat riding. They are close-fitting from waist to ankle, with full hips for comfort. The pants are noticeably longer, ending with a flared bell bottom that fits over a jodhpur boot, extending below the heel in the back and covering the arch of the foot in front. Stirrup buttons on the inside hem add to their authenticity. The overall look gives the impression of a rider with a long leg and heel lower than the toe, the desired equitation standard for this riding style. Reinforced fabric protects the inner calf and knee from rubbing.

These pants feature two front inset slit pockets (note wear at the right pocket slit), belt loops, and a left side talon metal zipper fly with a vegetable ivory button closure at the waistband. The sartorial split waistband has been altered shut by a tailor at the waist, and there are multiple darns, as shown. Made from worsted wool gabardine, these pants are a beautiful tobacco color. Modern size equivalent: Large/12

These rare riding pants are a fabulous find for any equestrian enthusiast.
