Midnight Oil, an alternative rock band from Sydney, Australia, formed in 1976 (originally as “Farm” in 1972). Known for their political activism and environmentalism, they gained worldwide fame with their 1987 hit “Beds Are Burning.” The band, featuring Peter Garrett (vocals), Jim Moginie (guitar, keyboards), Martin Rotsey (guitar), Bones Hillman (bass, vocals), and Rob Hirst (drums), embarked on the diesel and Dust Tour to promote their album Diesel and Dust. This tour, inspired by their experiences during the Blackfella/Whitefella Tour, solidified their reputation for powerful live performances and advocacy for social and environmental issues.
