Postmarked 1950 vintage postcard. Azalea Time in Cypress Gardens, Florida. Cypress Gardens, located in Winter Haven, Florida, was a renowned botanical garden and theme park that opened on January 2, 1936. It was created by Dick Pope Sr. and his wife, Julie, and became famous for its beautiful gardens, water ski shows, and Southern Belles dressed in antebellum attire. Known as Florida’s first commercial tourist theme park, it was often referred to as the “Water Ski Capital of the World” due to numerous water skiing records set there.
The park also served as a filming location for several movies and TV specials, attracting celebrities and dignitaries. Despite competition from larger theme parks like Walt Disney World, Cypress Gardens remained a beloved attraction until it closed in 2009. The botanical garden portion has since been preserved within Legoland Florida, which opened in 2011.
This lovely linen lithograph would look great framed or make an excellent addition to any collection.
