"Do but see this comic set of fellows form the alphabet"
This delightful vintage linen tapestry features a reproduction of the 1782 Colonial Carington Bowles print titled "The Comical Hotch Potch, or The Alphabet turn'd Posture-Master". An original example of the print is in the Colonial Williamsburg print collection. Following the custom of the times, the print has only 24 letters. "J" and "U" are missing as people continued to use "I" and "V" respectively.
Measures approximately 27 1/2" x 16 3/8"
The top features an opening with a maximum circumference of 2 inches, designed to fit a rod or dowel. The print is marked copyright C.W.F. 1990, indicating this was made for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. It is in pristine condition.
