1910 vintage postcard. Ottilie Zwink as the Virgin Mary in the 1910 production of the Oberammergau Passion Play. In 1633 Europe was being ravaged by the Bubonic Plague. The citizens of this town prayed that if they survived the Plague, they would forever put on a play depicting the life of Jesus. By 1634 the Plague slowed down, and the promise has been kept. The play has been performed every 10 years from 1634 to 1674 and each decadal year since 1680 by the citizens of Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany. RPPC. Real silver gelatin photograph postcard.
