These bold, cold print rayon pajamas are a stunning example of mid-20th century design. Popular from the 1920s to the 1950s, cold print rayon features a smooth texture and vibrant patterns, thanks to its unique cold process production.
The novelty print features javelins and shields on a rich red background, offering a playful nod to the classical antiquity and militaristic symbols that were popular in earlier eras. This design was reinterpreted for the post-WWII generation, which had a renewed interest in history as both a reflection of the past and a way to escape the harsh realities of war and societal change. During this time, there was a romanticized fascination with medieval chivalry and classical antiquity, particularly in Europe and America. Condition and care: The pants are finished with French seams, with a small section at the crotch secured by zig-zag stitching (see images). The interior collar has some holes, and light browning is visible on the white section of the shield prints. The shirt has a couple of small holes on the upper back and near the bottom, all of which are shown in the images. A dry cleaning is recommended to restore this beautiful set.
