1920 vintage topographical postcard of the Empress of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria, known as Princess Sissi, stayed in Merano five times in the last thirty years of the nineteenth century, drawing the attention of the Central European aristocratic circles to the Italian spa town and helping to launch it as a place of care for the nobility.

Merano has dedicated a white marble statue to the memory of Sissi located on the left orographic bank of the Passirio stream at the beginning of the Summer Walk.
