1970s. A popular mid-century export, this is a simplified reproduction of a 19th-century Japanese porcelain frog model from the Edo Period (1603 – 1868). The original diamond-shaped gold foil sticker with "O M C JAPAN" is on the base. The Otagiri Mercantile Company (OMC) was a Japanese-based company from 1954 to 1994. The company was also registered in New York and San Francisco. Otagiri imported wares from a variety of Japanese kilns, so it is impossible to know the exact maker of this piece outside of its country of origin.
