WW2 German propaganda memorabilia. This book is filled with black-and-white photographs of German Catholic religious architecture, art, artifacts, ceremonial pieces, and actual religious ceremonies. The book promotes the idea of the positive status of religious Catholic freedom in Germany, citing statistics from 1935 through 1940. The latest year referenced is 1941.
A speech by "The Fuhrer" is referenced on the last page "According to the Führer, in his speech of January 30, 1939, before the Reichstag,...". And, "During the summer of 1940, 52,000 copies of the New Testament were distributed, of which a considerable part was destined for the campaign. This is another proof of the freedom with which religious life develops in Germany." It includes statistics regarding Catholic freedoms in Germany dated to 1939, with one of the black and white photographs referenced "1941".
This book was printed in Germany for the Argentine upper classes. Germany was softening Argentina for several reasons at the time- it was the only country in the Western Hemisphere that was at all open about supporting Hitler after 1939-40 when FDR finally turned on him. They saw it as a possible staging position for invasion of this continent, not just a sympathetic land to retire to. One could characterize this as a Nazi real estate brochure aimed at the higher classes of Argentinian commerce.
Attributed to Friedrich Meier wrote a similarly made series of limited-print propaganda books for German consumption that focused on the military war power of the Third Reich. Published by Verlag Erich Klinghammer, they are almost identical in how they are laid out.
Rare: Material from the period of Germanic control of Europe was hunted down and methodically destroyed. Our research only shows one other copy housed in the National Library of Spain's collection.
Provenance: This came to us through a family member's estate. It was brought to the United States when they emigrated from Argentina in the mid-1950s.
