Care and Condition: The fabric is still sturdy and could be restored with some care. Issues include stains, several steel stays poking through the interior, rusted fittings, and one missing button tab. Six of the twenty stays have broken through. A period repair is visible at the bottom of the fastening stain, padded to prevent the stay from damaging outer garments.
This corset had a strong body odor, which we treated for two weeks with a homemade rubbing alcohol-based solution, followed by plenty of sunshine and fresh air. It no longer has a noticeable odor, but exposure to body heat could release residual smells, so further treatment may be needed. We do not recommend washing it, as the steel stays will rust if exposed to water.
