This 1899 medal, titled “Joan of Arc, Before the Battle,” was crafted by L.E. Mouchon. It measures 49.7 mm in diameter and weighs 59.7 grams, is made of bronze, and remains unaltered.
The obverse side features Joan of Arc in armor on horseback, facing right, with her hands clasped in prayer and a banner behind her. The background depicts a castle and walls, with the inscription “before the battle” above and “E·MOUCHON” in the exergue.
The reverse side is inscribed with a tribute to Joan of Arc, honoring her as the heroic virgin and martyr, and the angel of the French homeland.
Louis-Eugène Mouchon, the artist, was known for creating state papers, stamps, coins, currency, and medals.
